Avoiding Plagiarism

Strategies and resources to help students with citing appropriately and avoiding plagiarism.

Citing Code

Using or adapting code from another source, including open source, without citing or crediting the developer is considered plagiarism. Similarly to writing an academic paper, you must cite the source of the code, even if it is only a snippet. When using open source software, you also need to follow the terms of the open source license that is applied to the copied code.

Citing AI-Generated Content

Acceptable use of ChatGPT and other AI-generated content for student assignments and projects is determined by class and program policy. Consult course materials and instructors for guidance. Like any other source used in assignments, AI-generated content must be cited appropriately, both in-text and as part of the reference list.
