A movie can give a writer a sense of a time and a place. For a movie to be believable, the movie has to create a world all its own and an emotional experience to the viewer. For believability and accuracy, screenwriter, director, set designer, costume designer and make-up artist often spend time researching the time, the place, and the people. Which means that movies can be a starting place for research and inspiration.

Here are just a few films, and not the only ones, that can be helpful places to begin your research on a number of subjects:
