The following tutorials provide information on using the Nexis Uni database effectively to find business information and intelligence.

Using Nexis Uni to Find Company Information

Use Nexis Uni to find in-depth company information for publicly traded and privately owned companies. The depth of information will depend upon the type of company.

  1. On the main search page use the drop down menu on the upper left next to the title, Nexis Uni.
  2. Select Company Dossier from the drop down.
  3. Enter the name of the company you're interested in. If traded on a stock exchange you can also use the ticker symbol. Select search.
  4. A list of potential companies will be retrieved. Click on the name of the company for details.
  5. In-depth information is arranged by topic on the left side of the page. You can explore financial information and SEC filings, company activities, including mergers and acquisitions, intellectual property, and if available SWOT reports (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats).

Use the Guided Search feature on the main search page to help manage your search results.

  1. What are you interested in? Select Company Info.
  2. Enter the name of the company you want to research.
  3. Using the drop down menu in the Show Me section to select the type of information you want to view, including Company Profile, SEC Filings, Analyst Reports or All Company Information.
  4. This retrieves information from multiple resources and date ranges.

Discover Topics is a curated and managed section, gathering together a range of resources related to Business topics. Once on the Business topics page you can create company lists, search for companies, explore business news, and legal cases.

  1. Find a Company provides the same functions and level of information as the Company Dossier search.
  2. Create a Company List allows you to create custom lists of companies based on your selection criteria, including:
    1. Geographic information
    2. Type of company (search by NAICS or SIC codes)
    3. Size of company and more
  3. Company Search uses either the name of the company or the ticker symbol (if traded on a stock exchange).
  4. Company Search by Executive Profile retrieves biographical information, news and articles about corporate executives.

Using Nexis Uni to Find Industry Information

Use the following steps to locate Industry information by using a Company.

  1. On the search page use the drop down menu on the upper left next to the title, Nexis Uni.
  2. Select Company Dossier from the drop down.
  3. Enter the name of a company or the ticker symbol in the industry you're researching and select search.
  4. Click on the name of the company. If there's more than one listed, select the one most appropriate for your research or select the one identified as Parent company.
  5. Select Industry Knowledge from left-hand column, then Industry Overview.
