Alice Walker is best known for her novel, The Color Purple. She is a novelist and poet, civil rights activist, and women's rights activist. She won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and the National Book Award for fiction in 1983. The Color Purple was subsequently turned into a film starring Whoopi Goldberg.
