Advanced Search Strategies

Advanced searching techniques to focus and control database search results while retrieving more relevant results.

This guide presents a number of advanced searching strategies that can be used in most research databases as well as with Google and Google Scholar. Advanced searching involves more focused use of databases, search terms and known materials, and provides techniques for more precise searching.

While most library research databases function in a similar fashion, the exact way a technique is structured and implemented may vary between different database families (e.g., all EBSCOhost databases will have the same functions; there will be some differences between EBSCOhost resources and Nexis Uni). It is helpful to familiarize yourself with each search interface, and then consult the Help and Support pages with questions.

Note to students and faculty who are Off-Campus:  If you are experiencing any issue accessing the library subscription resources and databases please use the following site: https://oclc.fullsail.edu
