The Sixties: Jazz & the Classical Music Scene

This guide covers the decade 1960 - 1970

Jazz and Blues Through the Sixties

Though Jazz and Classical music did not initially have the impact that Blues, Country, Gospel and Folk had, they eventually influenced Rock & Roll in subtle ways as it matured. Eventually Rock artists found themselves turning to the Jazz and Classical genres to  produce a music that reflected the subtlety and sophistication  found in both genres. The improvisational techniques in jazz strongly influenced how bands jammed in live performances. The dramatic nature of ballet and opera influenced performances and compositions in such artists as David Bowie, Alice Cooper, The Who and Kate Bush (in the late seventies and early eighties).
